For the past two months I have been able to write my EmpowerMoments with little or no effort but this week was a different story. I normally say a brief prayer and the words start flowing before Amen, but in honor of Black Music Month we were asked to incorporate a song into each entry making it a bit more difficult. Even though it did not have to be a gospel song, all I could think of was good ole church music. That was until one morning I was cleaning the house, listening to Pandora and one of my favorite R&B songs started blasting through the speakers.
Most slow songs cause me to travel down memory lane and think about a past boyfriend but that particular day was different. The only name that came to mind was JESUS as Aaliyah sung each word so intensely. I instantly started trying to reprogram my brain and convince myself that “I Care 4 U” was for a man and not Jesus! I even began to question my Christianity…if I could make this secular song about my Savior, did I really LOVE Jesus like I claimed?
Just as the second guessing began, I had a sudden epiphany… “In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path.” (Proverbs 3:6 KJV) I realized that I was doing exactly what God wanted me to do—finding Him in EVERY area of my life. As the lyrics continued, I looked for the deeper meaning and not just the sultry sounds. The closer I listened the more I realized that everything that she talks about is everything my Daddy is to me: a confidant, a comforter, a consoler, a counselor, and the list goes on. It was like He was using her to speak to me. “Can I talk to you? Comfort you? Let you know that I care for you?” Aaliyah may have intended for the song to be about a special person in her life but this song had taken on a whole new meaning for me! It was now Jesus’ and my special love song!
As I continue to deepen my relationship with Jesus, He continues to show Himself in EVERY area of my life. Worshipping Jesus is not restricted to gospel choirs and praise teams but it can be done through many avenues. As long as my spirit remains open to receive Him, He can be found anywhere.
Thank You for making Yourself visible everywhere. Help me to incorporate more of You into my daily living that You may reign forever! Allow me to conquer my situations and set-ups with You at the forefront. Lastly, Daddy I ask that You give me the ability to see YOU no matter what the issue so that You can direct my path. No longer will I place limits on a God that is above all and bestows limitless blessings! In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen!
Ladies, I urge each of you to EMPOWER yourselves and one another to see the Jesus in the situation. Before calling to get a second opinion talk it over with God and let Him render your diagnosis. Give Him the opportunity to show you how much He cares for you!
Listen to Aaliyah’s “I Care 4 U” and imagine that God is wooing you!
