The song I chose this week is by an artist that I’m no a huge fan of but I heart this song: Rihanna’s Umbrella. I had another song chosen but God placed this one on my heart. Not sure who needs this but I hope that it touches you the same way it did for me when I actually took it apart.
I spoke with a friend earlier this week that was going through something. He was talking about everything that seemed to be going wrong for him. His list of issues seemed to be very long. There were so many things that he was aiming for but he seemed to keep missing the mark.
You have my heart
And we’ll never be worlds apart
Maybe in magazines
But you’ll still be my star
Baby cause in the dark
You can’t see shiny cars
And that’s when you need me there
With you I’ll always share
This verse seemed to go with where he was as well as a place many of us have been. When things are going great for us we can clearly see our path and where we are going. The light is so bright that we can pretty much get where we are going. It’s when things go dark that we lose our way. We have to remember that we are following God always…no matter what the conditions. We always praise Him when things are going great. We hold fast to all those things that make us happy. It’s when those things are no longer there that we have to remember that it is never the things we should seek but the face of God!
You have been a refuge for the poor, a refuge for the needy in his distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat. For the breath of the ruthless is like a storm driving against a wall and like the heat of the desert. You silence the uproar of foreigners; as heat is reduced by the shadow of a cloud, so the song of the ruthless is stilled. (Isaiah 25: 4-5 NIV)
These fancy things, will never come in between
You’re part of my entity, here for infinity
When the war has took it’s part
When the world has dealt it’s cards
If the hand is hard, together we’ll mend your heart
We should never look to people or things to make us happy. It is only through Christ that we find true happiness. Everything else is an added bonus. I told my friend that sometimes God will remove all those other things that we tend to focus on to try to bring our focus back to Him. “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8: 38-39 NIV)
You can run into my arms
It’s okay don’t be alarmed
Come here to me
There’s no distance in between our love
So go on and let the rain pour
I’ll be all you need and more
No matter what, it is so good to know that we can always look to God to be our shelter. It is only through Him that we can face the storms ahead.
Thank You for being my shelter in a time of storm. Please allow me to stay focused on You and what Your plan is for my life. Help me to ignore the distraction and keep my mind on You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
Today, I EMPOWER you to focus on God. He is your refuge in any STORM. Keep your mind on Him and know that all things will be given to you according to HIS will.
Listen to Rihanna’s “Umbrella” and reflect on how He has sheltered you:
