“Death and life are in the power of the tongue and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” (Proverbs 18:21 KJV)
This scripture is pretty popular and I always knew there was power in the tongue but it was not until this scripture had a head on collision with my reality that I understood the sincerity of God’s word.
Let me take you down memory lane…
Sunday June 26, 2011 (Phone conversation with a friend)
Friend: Hey girl, where are you headed?
Me: Girl going to this stupid job! You know I really wish I didn’t have to go to work.
Sunday July 3, 2011 (Conversation with a friend)
Friend: Where are you going for the holiday?
Me: Where else? Work! I promise I should quit! I hate this job!
Saturday July 4, 2011 (Getting ready for work)
*Sighs* I hate this job. I can’t wait until it’s over!
Saturday 16, 2011 (At work)
My manager got spiffy with me today. She doesn’t know, I really don’t need this job. This is not my career. Skip her and her little job!
“A wholesome tongue is a tree of life; but perverseness therein is a breach spirit.” (Proverbs 15:4 KJV)
Now although I truly felt this way, I always showed up to work on time with a smile and did what I was told peacefully. I never called off and picked up extra shifts when we were short of staff. Wednesday, July 27th, I showed up to work with my bright smile only to find out that I was FIRED. My mind was racing…no job, no paycheck. I quickly questioned my manager why my name was scratched off the schedule. She looked down while speaking to me, “Well Chaunte’, you were sick Saturday and had to leave early. That’s just not tolerable; I have to let you go.” “Are you serious?” was my thought. I angrily walked to my car and said some pretty mean things about her and the company as a whole. But God quickly CHECKED me!
“Their princes shall fall by the sword for the rage of their tongue.” (Hosea 7:16 KJV)
This situation was much deeper than the surface. At first I could only see my manager firing me for what I perceived as nothing at all. However, the root of the issue had been developing over several weeks as I spoke and released those many negative words into the atmosphere. I had spoken these adverse actions into my life. As I had this revelation, I quickly humbled myself and closed my mouth!
“Whoso keepth his mouth and his tongue keepth his soul from troubles.” (Job 5:21) KJV
Thank You for checking me! “My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correction.” (Proverbs 3:11 KJV) Help me to control my tongue. Cancel out any negative words that have been spoken over my life by me or others. Remind that I have power in my tongue to birth and abort. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
Ladies, today I EMPOWER you to watch the words you release into the atmosphere. Speak positively! When your husband is working your last nerve, speak positively about him! When you have to go to the job that you really dislike, release positive words. When your life is in turmoil, began to speak great things into your presence. Speak It! Speak It! Speak It! Because there is POWER in the tongue!
