What! You’re Grateful For THAT???

Yesterday was Thanksgiving and I was telling my family what I’m thankful for.  I am thankful for the opportunities I did not get, relationships that did not work, and for the times I’ve been hurt, disappointed and misused.  I received so many awkward stares and side glances as if to say, “You’re thankful for THAT???”

My answer to all of them is YES!! I’m thankful.  We are instructed to “…give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1st Thessalonians 5:18 NIV)  Our thankfulness is NOT to be limited to what we consider good.  We are to thank Him in EVERY situation and for everything, including what we consider bad.

A wonderful example of this principle in practice is in Acts 16.  Paul and Silas had been wrongfully accused and arrested, stripped naked,  savagely beaten, and thrown in jail, YET, “…But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns of praise to God, and the prisoners were listening to them…” (Acts 16:25 NIV)  Later in that same chapter Paul and Silas experienced the power of God when the jail shook and their chains were loosed.  The same God that delivered in the midst of praise back then is still willing and able to deliver today, however, you have GOT to praise God even in the middle of your storm.

Lately, I have been facing some difficult situations, illness of close family members, working with limited financial resources, dealing with disappointment and personal failures; however, I choose to praise God because I know EVERYTHING He allows in my life is just moving me closer to the destiny I have in Him.

Dear Daddy,

THANK YOU!!! Thank You for EVERYTHING!  I thank You for all the good in my life and all the struggles.  I thank You for every goal You’ve allowed me to reach and the ones I’m still striving to attain.  I thank You for the opportunities I’ve been given and for all the doors that were slammed in my face.  I thank You for all of my family and friends.  I thank You for breaking relationships and causing people to remove themselves from my life.  Thank You for EVERY time You have told me NO or caused others to tell me no.  Help me Lord to continue to submit myself to You and I decree and declare that Your WILL BE DONE, whatever it is! In Jesus’ Name, Amen!

Ladies, today I EMPOWER you to PRAISE AND WORSHIP God right in the middle of your circumstance. Praise Him for EVERYTHING going on in your life and walk in confidence knowing that “He who began a good work in you, will see it through to completion!”  Thank God that all the good, and especially all the bad, is just moving you closer and closer to your destiny.

  1. Katrina!! You got my spirit moving my sister!!! With a sincere heart I can say that I also am thankful for people removed from my life, for opportunities passed by and for unanswered prayers! SO thankful that my Heavenly Papa knows what’s good for me and doesn’t answer/give me everything that I’ve prayed for in my life time…BUT I AM thankful for EVERYTHING that has happened to me and for me, I get it that it’s all part of Jesus’ plan to move me right where I need to be to walk the steps that have already been ordered. Thanking and Praising Him in EVERY season, situation or circumstance!!! GOD IS SO WORTHY!!! God bless you Sis!!

  2. What an on time message. God is Great and Awesome. Today, a relationship ended that had been struggling for years but instead of crying, as I should have been doing or would have been doing had it not been for the Peace and love of the Holy Spirit, I have been giving God the Praise. SO yes I am thankful for (that).

    1. I’m praying for your continued strength and your healing. I have been in this situation and you must hold on to the fact that God never removes anything from your life without full intention of giving you something better…your response must continue, however, to be one of worship and praise. Praying with you sis 🙂

  5. Dee,thank you soooo much! I do need prayer. My mother is an addict and is back using. It’s hard for me because I’m taking care of my 17 year-old brother who is starting to become angry and smoking weed everyday. I can’t take it anymore. His habit is causing me to want to give up on him. I love him,but I hate his habits. He is living with me right now, what am I to do? My mom is not stabled(she is floating from my house,my granny’s,anf other family members houses) and he does want to try to finish highschool. She don’t want to talk about getting herself together or even try to get herself together. My husband and I are trying to look for our own home because my lanlord will be listing my house as of May2012 so I do I need prayer. I pray and interceede for many, but I’m in the need for prayer right now(we put an offer in on a house:11/22/2011,and I’m praying that it will get accepted and that our approval process will go smooth). So thank you and know that I soooo appreciate your response.
