Dear God, What Are You Up To?

Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong. Psalm 37:1 NIV

Let’s have a real conversation; have you ever witnessed people who you knew were not living right being blessed? I am not talking about in the judgmental you are living like I think you should way, but people who confess out of their mouths that they either don’t believe in God or feel that they can live their life anyway they deem fit. They literally tell you, “I do whatever I want” and their lifestyle reflects that.

Now how do you feel when you hear all the absolutely wonderful things that are going on in their lives? Are you just a tad bit envious? Do you want to just have a private sit down with God and go over your resume`? “God remember back three months ago, when I didn’t have a lot of money and I still tithed? Remember when that woman at work talked bad about me and stole a promotion from me, how I prayed that she would be prosperous? Remember that?”

I am currently in a very envious state. I don’t want to admit it but I am. I have been purposely seeking God more, reading the Bible more, attending church, praying…all the things that people say should equal the magical formula of a blessing. You know the Christian math:

Prayer+ Faith =Blessing

Instead my math is looking a bit more like this:

Prayer+ Faith =…wait for it…wait for it…?????

I am still waiting on God for several things in my life. I pray for a good man. I pray for a better car. I pray for healing for a good friend.  Yet, I am still single. My car (although I am grateful for having transportation) is getting costly to repair when it breaks down because they are having trouble finding parts for an older model car. My friend is still dealing with several health challenges.

Truthfully, if I wanted to I could recount every single thing that is going wrong, or things that I am (not) so patiently waiting for God to change, but why would I? When we get into moments where we start to compare our blessings to other people’s blessings we are walking on very treacherous ground.

Then the LORD spoke to Job out of the storm. He said:

“Who is this that obscures my plans with words without knowledge? Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me.

Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation?  Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it?” Job 38:1-5

Ladies, we may never know why God chooses to heal or not heal, to give financial windfalls or withhold, to give you a season or lifetime of singleness. As a woman of God, your task is not to try and figure out why or what God is doing in your life. Your task is to remain faithful, to be steadfast in His Word and cling to Your Father’s Hand. We have a testimony to the unbelievers when we continue to walk in righteous even when it seems like there is no earthly “benefit”. This world is not your home and your wisdom can never compete with your Father’s. When this life ends, who knows what God will reveal to you about your valley times. Maybe someone is watching you in your valley. That person might be hoping to see you succeed so they can believe that God will do the same for them. You rob that person of being encouraged by your efforts when you doubt, complain or even worse when you take certain earthly shortcuts to get what you think you need. The most important thing to remember is that God does everything for our good.

Dear Daddy,

Please keep me from comparing my life with those around me. Keep my hand in Your hands as I continue on this journey.  When I am confused, scared or upset guide me to Your Word that will help strengthen me. Thank You for never leaving me especially at my most vulnerable moments. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!

Lovely Ladies of God, I EMPOWER you to remain faithful. You did not marry Christ for benefits, you married Him for love and just like in any marriage, there will be hardships. Remember, unlike an earthly marriage, your Husband is perfect; He has perfect wisdom and even more comforting, a perfect Love.

  1. Dear Renee,

Get out of my business! #thatisall

Seriously, this is a struggle for me. It is hard not to think “When Lord, When?” My car sounds like a motorcycle and let’s not even get into the other topics. Everyday I have to say a prayer of Thanks and remember that I am better off than what I could be…He is blessing me with things that I often take for granted… like the ability to breathe without an oxygen tank. For that alone, I must have an attitude of gratitude as I wait on the remainder of his promises.

  2. This is an interesting Em for me because I am still going through it. I am not delivered from wanting God to do something right this second about how I am feeling..esp when I “see” what other people have. My friend once told me, the grass maybe greener on the other side, but that just might mean they have a higher water bill. LOL. Hopefully we can encourage each other through this process.. thanks for reading 🙂

  3. This connects with yesterday’s sermon and how we are not entitled to anyting and that God is King and what ever he wills; He will. I am so blessed by this and I LOOOOVE IT!!!

    1. Good Morning Lisa!
I am so glad this ties into yesterday, I was going to write about something totally different and actually didn’t write this one til this past Friday..even while I was writing it I was like…how will this look LOL. Jealous of people who don’t do right??? But we are human, we have emotions and we have to die daily to anything that is not of our Father.

  4. Renee`, I am soooo guilty of looking at those around me who arent trying to live HALF the life that I am and see how blessed they are….I’m like “HOLD UP, GOD! Did you get our files mixed up??!!!” But a very wise woman once told me that often times the enemy keeps his team happy so that they are comfortable where they are, never desiring to find God…BUT remember, the wealth of the wicked is laid up for the righteous! (Prov 13:22)

We are going to reap in due season!

    Great perspective, thanks for sharing!

    1. Wow, that’s a great point! He has to give them something to preoccupy them while they are here. Like I said this is not our home and hardships are sometime used to remind us of that (look at Paul’s thorn). Thanks for the encouragement!! I hope u had a great bday!

  5. You are so welcome 🙂 I am so glad that this was able to bless you! I will continue to pray that He strengthens our convictions.

  6. I really like this post and I just love when God confirms His word. Tomorrows post is a direct response to your post. It’s called “Don’t Stop.” As you stated, we can’t get discouraged when everything arounds us seems to be prospering while we seem stagnant. God wants us to keep pressing forward in faith…Oh and I loved the EM clause. Great job!

  7. I can’t wait Tasha!! I love how God moves and how He works! thanks so much I am moving forward and pressing into Him.

  8. Sis. Renee:
It is the enemy’s job to keep the people of God confused, upset, worried, unfocused on the things of God, tired, and depressed. The list just goes on and on. Christians must stay vigilant, prayerful, and confident in the God in whom they believe and always know that He has a plan for their lives. We may not always understand His plan but His plan is the best one for us. Galatians 6:9 reads thus: “And let us not be weary in well doing for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” Be blessed.

  9. Geri,
Thanks so much for sharing this with me. I do realize that His plan is best and I am diligently seeking His Will for my life. The only way to do so is to not look at what other people are doing..or what you think they are doing. Thanks for the encouragement I am def staying the course!

  10. Renee, I don’t know if I’m laughing with you, or laughing at me because I soooooo go through this. I’m like, Lord, how can they have xyz and could care less about your kingdom, and I have to plan, budget, be careful, and clip coupons just to stay comfy. I love this post, and am reminded not to store treasures here on Earth, but in Heaven.

Thanks for such an awesome post!!!!

    1. I’m super late (sorry!) lol but I am glad you can relate…i was feeling so crazy when I was writing this EM..I was this making any sense LOL I don’t wanna stop pushing and pressing into God by any means but oh wee.. LOL looking at other folks can make you question are you doing this life thing right, but I know if I keep the will sooooo work out 🙂

  11. This was a great post! God is faithful and has great plans for each of our lives. (Jeremiah 29:11) We so want to know what they are well in advance; but many times He tell us things on a need to know basis. I believe He knows that if we saw it all laid out before us it would be mind boggling on so many levels. Over the years I’ve come to understand that God’s thinking is so far beyond my ability to comprehend and living a life of faith requires me to either trust Him or give up. I keep my eyes on the prize that is before me. One thing for sure comparison breeds envy and so I just try not to let my mind go there. Keep writing for Jesus!

    1. Hey Liz, thanks for responding 🙂

Staying focus is the key to everything. The enemy loves to distract us, he doesn’t always have to deter us, if we get distracted long enough we can deter ourselves. Truth is we also don’t know the cost of what that other individual paid for what seemed to come to them so easily. I once heard (in reference to the music industry) it takes six years to become an over night success. so we just never know what God has for us 🙂 or when He will give it to us, it could be closer than we think
