For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God. 2 Corinthians 1:20 NIV
Last week we discussed the Pharaoh Syndrome and how that debilitating disease cripples us and causes us to take advantage of God’s graciousness. Living in the cycle of willfully committing sinful acts, asking God to get you of your mess, promising Him that you will change and going back to the same behaviors is definitely stifling your growth in the Kingdom, and not to mention blocking your unseen blessings. But enough about the Pharaoh Syndrome; let’s take a look at how Pharaoh can affect you from another angle. This week I implore you search your past and ask yourself, “Are there times that I settled for what the enemy handed me? Did I get side-tracked by a microwave ‘blessing’ because I was too impatient to wait for the real thing? How many times has God shaken His head in utter disappointment as He said, ‘But I promised you so much more!’”
Yes, we are all guilty as charged! We convince ourselves that we are okay at a dead end job because the idea of actually searching for another job paralyzes us with fear. We walk around with ailing bodies and just count it as God’s will for our life. We accept spiritual mediocrity and stagnant growth because the cost of discipleship is just too high. We write our wayward teenage children off and think there’s no hope for their future. We live under curses of poverty because we can’t see a way out of debt. And just yesterday, we were reminded of how we settle for being the side chick when God really desires us to be called a wife! Sometimes I wonder if we are opening our Bibles to hear a Word from the Lord?! For He said that He has not given us a spirit or fear… (2 Timothy 1:7) AND He said that by His stripes we are healed (Isaiah 53:5) AND He promised to finish what He has started in us (Philippians 1:6) AND He promised that if we trained our children up knowing Him, that they would not depart from that life (Proverbs 22:6) AND He said that wealth and riches are in our homes (Psalm 112:3) AND He promised to make us the head and not the tail! (Deuteronomy 28:13) We are settling for what the adversary is handing us. Surely, God is screaming at us, “But I promised you more!”
As Moses was petitioning Pharaoh to allow the Israelites to leave Egypt, Pharaoh decided that a reasonable solution would be to allow only the men to leave so that they may worship God. But God had already promised Moses more! He promised that EVERYONE would be able leave.
Then Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh. “Go, worship the LORD your God,” he said. “But tell me who will be going.”
Moses answered, “We will go with our young and our old, with our sons and our daughters, and with our flocks and herds, because we are to celebrate a festival to the LORD.”
Pharaoh said, “The LORD be with you—if I let you go, along with your women and children! Clearly you are bent on evil. No! Have only the men go and worship the LORD, since that’s what you have been asking for.” Then Moses and Aaron were driven out of Pharaoh’s presence. (Exodus 10:8-11 NIV)
Imagine if Moses would have taken Pharaoh up on his offer and only allowed the men to leave. My guess is that they would’ve been forced to return to bondage. What good would life have been without their women, children and livestock? Or even worse, the men would not have been able to return and their families would have been subjected to a life of misery and slavery. What the enemy is offering may seem like a blessing, but how good will it really be to you in the long run? If it’s coming from the opposition, it’s only a trick to get you off course from the REAL blessing that God has in store for you. God wants you to know that He has promised you more!
Please forgive me for the times that I settled for less than what You have promised me. Sharpen my discernment that I may know when a trick from the enemy is coming disguised as a blessing from You. Teach me how to deepen my relationship with You so that I am not easy bait for satan. I thank You for the promises that are going to manifest in my life and I wait patiently with expectancy for You to deliver them! In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
Ladies, today I EMPOWER you to remember what God has promised you! Hold on to His words for He is not a man that He should lie. I EMPOWER you to look beyond the temporal satisfiers that the devil will put before you and continue to press towards the permanent blessing that God has ordained for you!
