Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”
(Genesis 2:18 ESV)
Lately I’ve been trying to spend less and less time thinking about being single. There have been times when I was a bit obsessed with thoughts on whether or not I would always be single, when or where I would meet ‘the one’ and what he would be like. Of course these thoughts led to conversations with other single friends about what ‘the one’ would be like. You know, those girl talks about the type of guy you like, want to be with and ultimately live happily ever after with.
So what type of guy was I interested in? What type of guy was I ‘looking’ for? Often, very superficial qualities were tossed around during these conversations. Tall and dark, nice teeth, has his own this or that, can cook for me….and of course the list went on. As I sat the other day just reminiscing on some of those conversations with friends and recalling some of the things I would have put on the list for ‘my type’, I realized those things didn’t even scratch the surface of God’s list! I realized that being tall and dark looks good, but having a passion for God and faith in His word are qualities in a man that are much more attractive. I realized that being with someone who wants to get to know me and be a friend before anything else gets placed much higher on any list than whether he drives to work or rides the bus, or rents or owns his home. I realized that if I’m trusting in God that His will for my life is best, and that when He sees fit He will bless me with a man that could never be fit into a category, or list of qualifications because he will be a God send and that is the only type I’m interested in.
Thank You for always being ‘the one’ that I needed, even when I didn’t know I needed You. I pray that I will have the patience and faith during this time of being single to know that You have already chosen ‘the one’ for me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
Single ladies, I EMPOWER you to make God your ‘type’ and allow Him to be ‘the one’! I EMPOWER you to drop your list and let God send you the man He’s designed specifically for you!
