What is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? (Psalm 8:4 NIV)
For two years straight I was disappointed because I was unable to treat myself or celebrate my birthday the way I wanted due to a lack of money and definite plans. Although, I tried to stretch my paycheck and prayed for more funds to celebrate, I was still broke as the day approached. So I learned to pray that I have a good time anyhow and that God would get the glory. God answered my prayers and He led friends and family to bless me in ways I didn’t expect. He even had a person or two, I hadn’t talked to in a while, call me out of the blue to wish me happy birthday. God not only answered my prayers, but He made me feel special each time. So this year I prayed the same prayer—that I would have a good time anyhow and that God would get the glory. One of my besties and I whose birthdays are 5 days apart even made plans to celebrate together this year. As I approached my birthday, once again bills came up, money got short, and the savings for my birthday plans I had started were depleted. However, let me remind you that God is the same today as He was yesterday. I was looking at having no transportation, nothing to wear and no money. I decided not to worry, but to pray about it, and I had confidence that God would work it out. He did!
Another friend, who is coming out to celebrate with us, said she wanted to be a blessing and give me a ride to the restaurant for my birthday celebration. Bless her heart! Then this past Sunday, one of the sisters in church walked up to me with a bag, inside was a silver shiny dress. She had no idea it was my birthday and she had given me clothes before, but this dress was on time and so pretty to wear for my birthday dinner. Lastly, God helped me map out my next paycheck to have money left over to celebrate.
I have a little saying that goes like this. Nothing is too big for God to handle nor too small for God’s concern. I love how God wants to be involved in every aspect of our lives (it is also imperative He is in every aspect), cares about what concerns us, and is working things out even when we think He’s not or feel like it’s too small of a thing for God’s attention.
I am reminded of the scripture: Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. (Phil 4:6 NLT)
I literally pray about, just about everything. “Lord, sit with me in this meeting.” “What clothes should I wear today?” “Lord, please help me take care of my hair.” “God, should I turn down this corner.” “Lord, I need lunch today at work but have no money; You said You will supply all of my needs according to Your riches and glory.” No matter how small it may seem, I try and pray about it. On the other end, I have had thoughts about whether or not I should even bother him with certain things or is it vain to ask him for this or that. Then I remember the scriptures:
Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. (Hebrews 4:16 NIV)
…You do not have because you do not ask God. (James 4:2 NIV)
So as I look back over the weeks since my last EM, I sit in awe of God and how He is concerned with even my small issues, my natural needs and emotional needs, and He is a great Father.
Thank You for being a limitless God who is concerned with everything about me. I thank You for teaching me to trust You to handle small concerns I have so I can trust You with my major concerns. You have showed yourself Mighty against all that I face and I am grateful that I have You, Holy Spirit, every step of the way. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
Ladies, today I EMPOWER you to remember my saying, “nothing is too big for God to handle, nor too small for His concern.” Include God in every area of your lives. Ask Him for guidance and direction even in your small issues. But, be willing to be patient, be willing to be obedient and willing to seek Him first. Yes seek Him first and all His righteousness! He loves us unfailingly and concerns Himself with everything about us.
