God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. (James 1:12 NLT)
As I grow older and my relationship with God gets stronger, I begin to see things as He wants me to see them. When unusual things happen and I feel defeated I think the devil is once again up to his foolery. Especially when I think of the hardships that I experience, I blame satan. I then get angry and frustrated, but I’ve come to realize that it is not always the devil and his tricks; yet it is God testing me to see if I really have experienced change or growth.
He tests me to see how I will act when all my bills are behind. (Will I curse the collectors out?) What will I do when my heart has been broken? (Will I hurt other people?) What will be my response when I’m struggling as a single mother? (Will I tell the father off?) What will I do when I want to throw in the towel? (Will I overdose on pills or have a pity party?)
In the Bible the word “test” means to prove by trial. Therefore, when God tests His children, the purpose is to prove that our faith is real.
James 1: 3-4 says, “For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow for when your endurance is fully developed you will be perfect and complete needing nothing.” (NLT)
You’ve heard the saying “no pain, no gain” when exercising our physical bodies. The same logic applies to exercising our faith in God. A perfect example is Job. He was a Christian and a believer yet God tested him to no end. Job 1:22 reminds us that through it all Job didn’t point one finger at God: “In all of this, Job did not sin by blaming God.” (NLT) However, in the end God blessed Job in the second half of his life even more than in the beginning. When testing and trials come our way, we should receive them with joy, because we know that it is God who allows them to strengthen our faith.
When I gave my life to You and became a Christian, You didn’t say I that wouldn’t experience tests I understand that tests and trials are necessary for me to develop into the woman of faith that You designed me to be. Thank You for preparing me daily for my tests. I don’t want to fail and I need you, God, to pass every test that You administer! In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
Ladies, I EMPOWER you to not give up when tests come before you. Recognize that tests are not designed to tear you down. Rather, God is building you up to see the goodness that He has in store for you.
