So take courage! For I believe God. It will be just as he said. (Acts 27:25 NLT)
I have always been a person that goes off impulse and doesn’t really think situations through. I have learned that making drastic changes in my life should be thought through and prayed about. God promised me some things in my life and because they didn’t happen as planned, I took matters into my own hands. You can guess how that turned out.
God promised me that I would be the head and not the tail in my career. An opportunity came and I took it thinking this that was my shot at being the head. Two years later I went back to my original position and I wondered what I had done to mess up my blessing. I later realized that I hadn’t messed up my blessing; that opportunity just that wasn’t what God had promised me. If God said it, believe it!
Another time I acted on impulse instead of consulting God was when I thought it was time to become a homeowner. I figured if it fell right in front of me it must be God. I begin to plan to make my move and nothing went as planned. I had to step back and realize that even though God said it and I believed it, He did not give me the green light to go for it.
“When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord came to him and said, “I am God All-powerful. Obey Me, and be without blame. And I will keep My agreement between Me and you. I will give you many children.” Then Abram fell on his face. God said to him, “See, My agreement is with you. You will be the father of many nations. No more will your name be Abram. But your name will be Abraham. For I will make you the father of many nations. Many will come from you. I will make nations of you. Kings will come from you. I will make My agreement between Me and you and your children after you through their whole lives for all time. I will be God to you and to your children’s children after you. I will give to you and your children after you the land in which you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan for yourselves forever. And I will be their God. (Genesis 17: 1-8 NLV)” “Then they said to him, “Where is your wife Sarah?” And he said, “There in the tent.” The Lord said, “I will be sure to return to you at this time next year. And your wife Sarah will have a son. (Genesis 18: 9-10 NLV)”
God promised Abraham that he would be the father of nations. Abraham didn’t know how because he didn’t have any children. When his wife Sarah could not conceive she gave Hagar her servant to her husband to sleep with and have a baby. Hagar was fertile and became the mother to Abraham’s son Ishmael. Sarah, going out of the will of God, became extremely jealous of Hagar and began to hate her. Because God promised Abraham and Sarah something that they decided not to wait on Him to deliver, the situation didn’t turn out as planned. Just like Sarah and Abraham, sometimes we become impatient and take matters into our own hands. Remember if God said it, believe it no matter how long it takes! Lead me in Your truth and teach me. For You are the God Who saves me. I wait for You all day long. (Psalms 25: 5 NLV)
The lesson in this EmpowerMoment is that we need to consult God in everything that we do. I have learned if God said it, then I am to believe it and take Him at His word. God is so awesome and amazing, why wouldn’t I trust Him? People have let me down and betrayed me over and over and God has been consistent so I am going to wait on God.
My God promised me the desires of my heart and I am going to wait until I get them. I am learning to live the word not just read it. It is easy to quote “If you have the faith the size of a mustard seed you can move mountains.” When thing don’t go according to your plans, it is not as easy to have that crazy and radical faith. However, I have chosen to praise Him more through my bad times because if He said it I believe it!
Thank You for teaching me how to follow You and trust You with every part of my life. God, thank You for protecting me when I followed my own ways and not Your ways. Continue to encourage me where I am discouraged. Thank You for reminding me not to be weary in well doing because I will reap the harvest if I faint not. If You said it, I believe it! In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
Women of God, I EMPOWER you to trust God even when your situation is taking too long in your eyes. Ladies, remember to go to God with every area of your life. I EMPOWER you to trust and believe that God will never leave you nor forsake you. God is too awesome for you not to remember that if He said it, believe it!
