Miracles Still Happen

Eleven days ago my father was in a car accident on his 64th birthday. Let me paint a picture for you.

Ring, ring, ring, ring, ring…

Me: “Hey ma.”

Mother: “Hey Sheka. Listen your daddy has been in a car accident while he was getting off the expressway.”

Me: “What? Is he okay? Where is he? I’m on my way?”

As we made it to the scene, I saw my dad was sitting in my brother’s car. Of course, my dad refused service from the paramedics because he thought he was just sore. However, my brother and mother took my dad to the hospital and they kept him.

Let’s fast forward to the next day at approximately 11:30 A.M……

Ring, ring, ring, ring…

Me: “Hey ma.”

Mother: “Hey Sheka. They transferred your daddy to Christ hospital because his neck is broke.”

Me: “What do you mean broke, I am confused.”

Mother: “Well they said he has one broken bone in his neck and his vertebra is fractured.”

Me: “I am leaving right now; I will call you and keep you posted until you arrive.”

I left work panicking because I only have one daddy. When I made it to the hospital, I became sad and couldn’t stop praying because I had never seen my daddy look so helpless. I began to ask God to work miracles and I also asked God to protect my daddy through his temporary state. Often times when people are at their lowest points in life, they forget that their current situations are just their temporary state and not where their destiny lies.

As I prayed for my dad, I thought of the woman with the issue of blood and although she had been in that situation 12 years she believed that Jesus was still able to work miracles. A woman in the crowd had suffered for twelve years with constant bleeding, and she could find no cure. Coming up behind Jesus, she touched the fringe of his robe. Immediately, the bleeding stopped. “Who touched me?” Jesus asked. Everyone denied it, and Peter said, “Master, this whole crowd is pressing up against you.” But Jesus said, “Someone deliberately touched me, for I felt healing power go out from me.” When the woman realized that she could not stay hidden, she began to tremble and fell to her knees in front of him. The whole crowd heard her explain why she had touched him and that she had been immediately healed. “Daughter,” he said to her, “your faith has made you well. Go in peace. ” (Luke 8:43-48 NLT)

My dad was explaining how the accident happened and I thought this could have been another way. The doctors and everyone were saying he was one lucky guy and my dad and I were saying that God is still performing miracles. I immediately thought of the man who had been crippled in bed and he believed that Jesus could heal him. “When Jesus returned to Capernaum several days later, the news spread quickly that he was back home. Soon the house where he was staying was so packed with visitors that there was no more room, even outside the door. While he was preaching God’s word to them, four men arrived carrying a paralyzed man on a mat. They couldn’t bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, so they dug a hole through the roof above his head. Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus. Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “My child, your sins are forgiven.” But some of the teachers of religious law who were sitting there thought to themselves, “What is he saying? This is blasphemy! Only God can forgive sins!” Jesus knew immediately what they were thinking, so he asked them, “Why do you question this in your hearts? Is it easier to say to the paralyzed man ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk’? So I will prove to you that the Son of Man[a] has the authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!” And the man jumped up, grabbed his mat, and walked out through the stunned onlookers. They were all amazed and praised God, exclaiming, “We’ve never seen anything like this before!” (Mark 2: 1-12 NLT)

My dad had surgery to repair his neck last Tuesday and last Thursday evening the hospital discharged him. The same Jesus that has performed so many other miracles has yet again performed a miracle. It was not by accident that my dad survived the car accident but it’s by God’s grace and mercy. My dad is still in a little pain but he can walk and use his arms. I am so thankful that God is still working miracles.

Dear Daddy,

Thank You for my miracles! God, continue to perform miracles in my life and everyone that’s connected to me. God, I’m so thankful that Jesus’ blood still works. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!

Ladies, I EMPOWER you to believe that God still performs miracles. Ladies, you need to develop the same confidence that the woman with the issue of blood and the crippled man had. If you can only touch the hem of His garment, you could be made whole. I EMPOWER you to expect a miracle today!
