If then ye were raised together with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated on the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things that are above, not on the things that are upon the earth. (Colossians 3:1-2 ASV)
Everyone is working towards something in their lives. You may be working toward being a better wife, a better daughter, a better sibling, a better employee or simply a better person. Whatever you may be working toward, I am sure it is to make you a better person.
Personally I am striving for excellence in every part of my life. I lost 60lbs and I am striving for more weight loss. I have been married for 4 years and I’m striving for until death do us part. I have been working for Chicago Public Schools for 10 years and I am striving for what’s next in my career. I am working on my credit and I am striving for perfection. I am striving for greatness in every area of my life.
The main thing I am striving for is to be more like Jesus. I know that the only perfect person that has ever walked the earth was Jesus. I know I will never be perfect that’s why He died for me but I can strive to be as close to Him as possible. I know that I sin and fall but I am a sinner saved by grace. I am striving to be the epitome of Jesus. When I walk into a room I want to illuminate Jesus. I am striving for excellence on this earth, in this lifetime.
My choir often sings the song Increase. I want to actually live that song – “I want you to enlarge my territory, oh Lord bless me indeed.” I want God to enlarge my territory. No, I’m not referring to a better car or a better house; I am talking about enlarging my territory spiritually. I am striving for what’s next for me spiritually. See “religious folks” often think because they read the Bible, pray and pay their tithes that they don’t have to do anything else. However, it is my desire to see how far my God is going to take me. I ask God often to take the lid and the boundaries off my ministry. I am striving to tell women, men, boys and girls that Jesus lives and the only way to God is through Him. I am striving to bring people to Christ through my words and actions.
I am striving for God to say, “Well done, good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” (Matthew 25:23 ASV) I am striving for God to make me ruler over many in this life and beyond. I have something to prove, not to man, but to God. I am striving to prove that I am capable of maintaining and protecting whatever He blesses me with. I am striving to prove to God that I will be a good steward over whatever He blesses me with.
I am striving to give this walk that I am on 100%. I don’t want to half do anything for God. I am striving to say fervent prayers and pray until something happens. I am striving to interpret the Word so that I can tell this sinful world that Jesus lives. I am striving to give God all that I have at all times.
Please protect me as I strive to be more like Your son Jesus. Continue to mold me into the woman of God that You need me to be. God, I need You to continue to fill me with the tenacity that I need to stand upright in an upside down world. Lord, I want to be excellent in Your eyesight; I want to please You! I want to be a part of the church that You come back for without a spot or wrinkle. I love You and I thank You for leading me in every area of my life. Thank You, God, for giving me something to strive for! In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
