Prayer, Throwback Thursdays

I’ll Pray For You!

It’s Throwback Thursday! This EmpowerMoment was originally published on July 11, 2013. Enjoy this blast from the past!

During the month of June, there was so much going on with those around me. My cousin was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. One of my close friends had to have a biopsy because of irregularities in her body.  My mother was told that she has 80% hearing loss in her right ear and she would need to have surgery, and a close friend of mine is fighting financial battles and their relationship with God.  I found myself saying, “I’ll pray for you”, over and over again. I hate to admit that I have been lazy when I pray.  I get in the bed instead of falling on my knees. I haven’t been alone and prayed intimately with God the way He expects me to.

In the midst of everything going on around me, it was a wake up call for me to build my prayer life back up.  When things seem content, I find myself getting relaxed with prayer.  I’m ashamed because God deserves more.  I should be bowing before Him and praying intimately and deeply from my heart.  He is not expecting long drawn out prayers for they do not impress God “When you pray, don’t babble on and on as people of other religions do.  They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. (Matthew 6:7 NLT)   He doesn’t want me praying selfish prayers because God already knows my need.  Jesus taught about preserving prayer where we pray for OTHERS.  This is where we ought to spend the greater lengths of time.  Literally, God wants us to stop thinking about ourselves all the time.  Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest to others too.  You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. (Philippians 2:4-5 NLT)  If we don’t care about others, then how can we reasonably expect God to cater to our selfishness?  Prayer makes a difference.  That’s why God’s word commands us to PRAY without ceasing.

We should never be too busy or too lazy to pray to the God who wakes us up every morning.  There is no excuse for not allowing God to use us to pray for our brothers and sisters. He wants our prayers and prayer is simply reaching out to our creator from the sincerity of our hearts.

Dear Daddy,

Thank You for another chance to get it right.  I will not cease in my prayers to You.  Remind me to pray for others as I seek You daily. Give me an intercessor’s heart that I may diligently seek You on behalf of my brothers and sisters in Christ. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!

Ladies, I EMPOWER you to continue to pray for those around you.  Let God use you to be a blessing to others.

With all the frigid cold weather and snowfall, this winter has been brutal. So please take the time to pray for others, especially for those who are homeless, those who are stranded and can’t get home, for the young people who have never experienced this type of weather, and for people who do not have enough resources to get through this season.
