This is for “U”

While the title implies a pronoun, you, I am referring to a letter in an acronym. A few months ago I heard a man talk about having F.U.N. He defined the term F.U.N. to mean, “be Fearless, Understand your opponent, and Never give up.” He was actually talking to a basketball team, but my take away contributed to my spiritual walk. I was stuck on the “U;” Understand your opponent. It has been my experience that many preachers, spiritual counselors and other spiritual people talk about the power of God, but rarely do we talk about the devil as the main subject of conversation. While I understand sometimes we may do this to not give him any credit or power, I often wonder if we stumble and fall because we do not understand our opponent.

???????????????????????????????????Every since I heard that acronym I have been trying to understand my opponent who is the devil, our enemy. My Pastor said something during one of his sermons regarding this that struck me. He said, “The only power the devil has is the power of suggestion!” I was so blown away by that statement because he is right. There is absolutely nothing the devil can do to me without God’s approval! James 4:7 NIV says, “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” That scripture means that I have the power to change the situation. If the devil is “suggesting” that I delve into temptation or that I am not God enough, I have the power to operate within God’s covering, resist the devil, and he will flee! Revelation 20:10 NIV says, “And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.” The action verb here is “deceive”. The devil can’t do anything but to make deceptive suggestions!

Lately I have been meditating on Ephesians 6:11-12. This scripture states, “Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” This is a daily warning, for us to put on the whole armor of God, for we do not fight against flesh and blood, but against the suggestive nature of the enemy! I’ve wasted so much time being angry with people, being hurt by people, and just plain irritated. This message encouraged me because I am learning the tricks and schemes of the opponent. The enemy comes like a thief in the night to steal and kill my optimism, my drive, my determination, and my motivation. I’m sure you’ve been there too. He uses your weaknesses to discourage your progress and he uses those closes to you to agitate you. Once he has you agitated, you are no longer able to stand against his schemes, so now you are vulnerable to fighting, arguing, and just having a plain ole “stank” attitude. Now that I understand his job, I am no longer swayed by his schemes. He only has the power to suggest! He who is in me is greater than he who is in the Earth! I win!

Devil you have been overuled!

Dear Daddy,

Thank You for imparting Your wisdom to me as I try to hide Your Word in my heart. Lord, during this journey as a Christian, it is my prayer that I stay alert, watchful, ready and expecting the tricks of the enemy. With that, I pray that daily I suit up to stand against his wiles. Lord I ask that the voice You have placed in me overpowers any thought of negative suggestion or discouragement. I rebuke it right now in the name of Jesus I pray Amen!

Ladies, I EMPOWER you to understand your opponent. Your sister is not who we are fighting against. This war is far bigger than carnal. Submit yourself to God and the devil will flee from you!

  1. Amen is right, thank you for reminding me that all Satan has is the power of suggestion!! I can receive it or block it! lately when I receive a negative comment from someone I use to go about trying to convince them why this may not be so. Sometimes it works better just to not comment on it. I may skip the subject or talk on something else. I am saying out loud in my mind. Devil get behind me. I let the suggestion die right there!! I feel good because its like pouring water on a fire trying to start. I don’t know. I just know I don’t want to put anything negative in the atmosphere!
