As It Is Written

“If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” Matthew 21:22 KJV

Prayer PicIn April of 2011, I wrote an Empowermoment entitled Waterproof. It was about a major transition in my life in which I was hesitant to relocate. I was scared to go and very uncertain of what the future held.

God sent me to His Word and revealed to me the story of Abraham and his departure from his home country to a new land, it reads:

“God told Abram: “Leave your country, your family, and your father’s home for a land that I will show you. I’ll make you a great nation and bless you. I’ll make you famous; you’ll be a blessing. I’ll bless those who bless you; those who curse you I’ll curse. All the families of the Earth will be blessed through you.” Genesis 12:1-3 NIV

I was blessed by this scripture and knew that God confirmed to me that it was indeed the right choice to move. Exactly a year later, in April 2012, I wrote an Empowermoment entitled Don’t Give Up Now. During our stay in our new city I was very uncertain because I was without a full time job and money was very slim. But I held on to God’s Word as it was written in Deuteronomy 1:21 NIV, “Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” I was encouraged to hold on and to top it all off, the first sermon at our new church at the time was from Genesis 12:1-3. How cool was that? We joined.

Two years passed and within those years I asked God to direct our next path. I prayed for five very specific things, 1) a job in Higher Education Administration where I would use my future doctorate degree 2) a church where my husband could work in ministry that also had a loving church family culture to embrace my children 3) a top notch school system for my children, 4) a warm residential community where I could develop a support system, and one more request that I still hold dear, #5.

In April of 2013, it’s something about April, exactly two years after the Don’t Give Up Now post, I was blessed with an amazing job (#1) in my field, the city holds one of the best school districts (#3) in the state and the nation depending on which resource you use, we found a loving church home (#2) where my husband’s hands in ministry are valued, and on April 18th  (there’s April again) we move into our new house in one of the best and warm (at least I think so anyway) neighborhoods (#4) in the county!

This past Sunday I was given yet another confirmation. I visited with my mother and attended my home church in College Park, GA. Pastor Bryant spoke from the text…you guessed it, Genesis 12: 1-3. But he kept speaking about something that has been embedded in my spirit since we’ve arrived at Orange Beach. I have had the strong desire to be a blessing to people. I am thirsty to empower, encourage, pray for, spend time with, pour into, and bless people in this season of my life. Pastor Bryant kept referencing verse 2 which reads, “And you will be a blessing.” This confirmed to me that I am in my blessed place, my place of favor. I am committed to lifting God’s name as much as possible! I want to be a blessing in ministry, in my marriage, at home, at work, and everywhere I go.

You know what else is interesting about this? The last request I had before we moved will be revealed on April 12, 2014, exactly three years after God spoke His promise to me to relocate. I’ve decided to shout in advance! Even if my request does not reveal itself in the way I hope, God has something better in store! And lastly, I gave a presentation today at work. A man, of Arabic descent, ran up to me pointing to the agenda. He said, “How do you say your name?” I pronounced it for him, and he said, “Do you know what your name means?” I said, “Yes Sir, it means friend of God. In Arabic it means an esteemed friend of God, one of highest adoration.” He said “YES! In our culture it is synonymous to the name *Abraham.” I never heard that part of the translation, but none the less I thought it was pretty cool how God’s plan is unfolding, literally as it is written in His Word. I absolutely cannot fathom blessing all the people on Earth as the scripture states, but I do believe, if you join me by blessing one person, WE can do it!

There were a lot of tears, doubts, and ugly moments over the past three years; but, I am sure, without a doubt that I am in my blessed place, my place of favor to be a blessing.

Dear Daddy,

I am always in awe at how Your Word is so true. It is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. It is my prayer that You reveal to every reader Your Word that gives life to their blessed place. Lord position our hearts to seek forgiveness of our sins, to seek Your Word, and to seek communion with You. Lord, teach us how to be a blessing to others. I ask that You give us a heart for giving to those in need, our local and international ministries, to the brothers and sisters of our world who do not know You. Lord, give us the right words to say, discernment for the right timing, and the desire to be sensitive to Your will. It is in Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Ladies, I EMPOWER you to step into your blessed place! We do that by being a blessing to others. Babysit the children of a couple who you know is having marital problems or that single parent who needs a break, pour into the life of a young teen who may need your love and support, empower your girlfriends by sending them to Empowermoments!

  1. Great post! I’m glad that the things you prayed about came to pass! It’s funny how God works (I.e. Confirmation on the scripture & things happening in April). It’s cool that you have past EmpowerMoments to remind you where you were in your life.

  2. Thank you Venus. I have to admit, it is hard to remember how weak I’ve been in the past or how I struggled, but seeing these old poists and looking at today, I can’t not praise Him for being so loving and kind and FAITHFUL!!
