Do you know how the clouds are balanced, Those wondrous works of Him who is perfect in knowledge? (Job 37:16 NKJV)
Recently I saw a new patient in our office that was referred to us for treatment of Iron deficiency anemia. This is a condition that I’ve diagnosed and treated many times, rarely with any complications. The patient’s visit had gone normally; history and physical exam were complete. I’d already decided on the treatment plan and had the nurse take her to the treatment room to prepare to start her intravenous iron infusion. She was my last patient of the morning so I went to eat a quick lunch before going into afternoon clinic.
Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; His understanding is beyond measure. (Psalm 147: 5 ESV)
No sooner than I sat down did a staff member come and get me saying that my patient had started having chills and shortness of breath seemingly out of nowhere. It was baffling as I had literally just examined her and gone over her history, none of which included any reason she should be having chills and struggling to breathe. When I reached her, the nurses had placed oxygen on her. This situation was so bizarre. My patient who was just fine was now in distress!
In the day of my trouble I call upon you, for you answer me. (Psalm 86:7 ESV)
Various orders were given and carried out and it turned out that the patient had an E. coli bacteremia (bacterial infection of the blood) from a urinary tract infection caused by E. coli bacteria. This is usually a situation that requires hospitalization. The patient could have died or suffered significant complications had she not been in the right place at the right time.
A little over a week later the patient returned to see us. She was so thankful for our care and God’s divine intervention. All I could think was how amazing God is. He truly is omniscient, omnipresent and omnipotent!
O Lord my God, I cried to you for help, and you restored my health (Psalm 30:2 NLT)
Thank You for Your ever present help in the time of trouble. Thank You for allowing us to be in the right place at the right time to receive Your blessings. Thank You for Your provisions and Your protection. Thank You for allowing us to be vessels to positively impact the lives of others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
