I used to be able to write. In one sitting I would write three pages or more. I started keeping a journal on my 12th birthday and wrote in it almost everday thereafter but one day it was gone! My passion and my will to write was GONE!! I tried to force myself to write but nothing came to mind. I even got a journal starter book with prompts to spark thoughts but when I used them I could not get more than a paragraph written because the writing felt forced, contrived, and counterfeit.
Here I am SEVEN years later!! My desire to write never went away so I was reminiscing on times past and started reading some of my retired journals. At that moment God revealed why I had not been able to write! Through reading my old journals I realized that in my writing I would tell what was going on, define the issue as I saw it, and then prescribe MY solution to it. NOT ONCE, did I consult God or His word on it. The word says, “…In all thy ways acknowledge HIM, and he shall direct thy paths…” (Proverbs 3:6 KJV) The violation of this key precept caused me to make unwise choices and delay what God had purposed for me to do.
My writing and what I had to say had become more important to me than what God had to say. This has been my experience in not only my writing but in relationships where I put a boyfriend over what God desired or when I put money over what God had instructed me to do. ANYTHING that we put above God is going to have to be removed because, God said, “…You shall have no other gods before me…” (Exodus 20:3 KJV)
In those seven years of not writing, I witnessed God remove other things from my life that were blocking me from Him. I have gone through a process of EXTREME spiritual growth. I am at the point in my life where I consult God about EVERYTHING!!! I don’t always accept or adhere to the answer He gives; but, I am definitely working on it!
Because I have reached this point of growth, it has allowed me to pursue my passion of writing again and is also restoring other things to me. Not only am I thankful but I also have a renewed sense of purpose. Never again will I be tempted to disregard the wisdom and divine word of God in favor of my limited human thinking.
Dear Daddy,
Thank You for being a God of correction. Thank You for giving us another chance to realize the extraordinary destiny we have in You. Thank You for removing anything in our lives that stands between us and You. We also thank You that we are able to have an intimate relationship with You where we can talk to You, seek Your counsel, and receive direction from You. We ask that You continue to lead us and direct us in every area of our lives so that we can successfully fulfill the purpose You have for us. In Jesus Name, Amen!
Today I EMPOWER you to reflect on the people, things, and/or habits in your lives that you deem important. Evaluate where those things are in relationship to God. Are you in violation of God’s word and His desire for your life in your interactions with those people, things, and/or habits? If so, seek the Lord’s forgiveness and begin taking steps to diminish those things that you have put before God. Increase your relationship with our Heavenly Father through prayer and the reading of His word so you can learn what He desires from and for you. Knowing this will make it easier for you to recognize when you are flirting with danger and putting something or someone before our God.
