So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you have to endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. (1 Peter 1:6-7a NLT)
Last year during Labor Day weekend, I had a huge surprise—I found out that I was pregnant with my third child. Beyond the fact that we weren’t really trying to get pregnant, we were really surprised because I supposedly had one of the best contraceptives on the market. “Less than 1 out of 100 women get pregnant if the Paragard is used properly.” In case you aren’t informed, the Paragard is an intrauterine device, also known as an IUD. Once the initial shock from the news that a new baby would be joining our family of four set in, it was time to deal with the situation of an IUD in place while I was pregnant. My doctor called me in immediately so that he could remove the device. This procedure had the potential to cause a miscarriage but it was better for both me and baby to remove it. However, when he tried to remove it, he couldn’t get it out. We later found out that the IUD was not where it was originally inserted. For the next four weeks, my doctor had me going into the office as he was trying to figure out what our next step would be. Each week he didn’t have an answer and I could tell that he was extremely perplexed. On the fourth week, he called me into his office and informed me that the best thing to do would be to terminate the pregnancy. “It’s just too risky, Kristen. You could develop an infection and possibly die. I don’t think we should take those types of risks.” That was on a Friday evening and he told me to think about it and let him know my decision on Monday. I left my appointment that evening in total despair. I was confused, disappointed, worried and upset. I spent the entire weekend in prayer and the only thing that played over in my mind was, “I believe God!” Monday morning I called the doctor and let him know that I wouldn’t be proceeding with the termination. I believed God and I trusted Him to do what He thought was best to do. The following day, I found out that I had lost the baby…
If you are like most people, you are wondering what happened. She believed and trusted God, so why didn’t He take care of her baby? She stood on His Word so why wouldn’t He use her seemingly impossible situation and get the glory? Well the answer is: He DID get the glory! Today’s EmpowerMoment is a lesson in tests and how God administers them at times. You see, sometimes all He wants to know is that you submit to His will. Sometimes He just wants to know that You trust Him enough that you are willing to do it, to say it or to be it. As it states in the scripture above, He wants to know if your faith is genuine! Once He’s sure of that, you’ve passed the test without ever having to actually take it. As crazy as it may sound, I am grateful for that miscarriage. Only God knows if I would’ve worried myself crazy the entire pregnancy about whether the IUD was going to harm or me or the baby. Remember that God knows exactly how much pressure we can bear and He will never put more on us than our limits allow; He just likes to know that you are willing to carry the cross if He calls upon you.
I thank You for the trials and tests that You send my way because they truly strengthen my character. Teach me to submit to Your ways even when I cannot see how it will work out. Give me a YES spirit so that anytime You ask me to do ANYTHING, my spirit agrees. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
Ladies, today I EMPOWER you to just say YES! A simple yes can give you an “A” without even having to take the test. Prove to Him that your faith is genuine; trust God in EVERY situation and watch Him work it out for your benefit!
